The Moonwalkers — A Journey with Tom Hanks Review
A new immersive film opens on the 6th of December 2023 at the Lightroom in Kings Cross. The Moonwalker, narrated by Tom Hanks, is a spectacular show with remastered footage of the last moon landings in the early 1970s.
After 51 years since the last moon landing, this film brings to life the footage that the astronauts captured on the moon. Through their various viewpoints, interlaced are the astronauts on the Artemis mission, which will launch in 2024. This trip will go around the moon, the first human to return to our nearest celestial neighbour.
The amazing footage is definitely worth seeing on the massive screen of The Lightrooom. It brings it more to life than watching on your computer screen. In some parts, it feels like you are sitting on the moon. Tom Hanks gives superb narration from his perspective. He also acted in the film Apollo 13 in 1995, which never made it to the moon and was nearly a disaster.
I was only two when we last visited the moon. Back then, when I was a young child, I would never have thought that it would take more than fifty years to go back. With all the technological change at the time and all the sci-fi programs and films, being in space was most boys' dreams. I thought that there would be hotels by now where you could stay for a couple of weeks like you would go to any destination at the moment.
“the most visceral and enthralling story to date of humanity’s journeys beyond our Earth”, with a “unique insight into the next time human beings will walk on the Moon — the Artemis missions” Tom Hanks
But this time, humans might be on the cusp of the wave of new technological advancement with reusable rockets. This will drastically reduce ticket costs, which are still in the thousands, but this could be 20 years off.
The Moonwalkers puts this into perspective with the evolution of man and how this is just a blink of an eye in the history of mankind.
