On Sunday 6th February 2022, Her Majesty the Queen became the first British Monarch to reach a platinum jubilee. A platinum jubilee is 70 years it will be celebrated fully in June with a few extra public holidays.

Congratulations to The Queen on this monumental milestone. Naturally, preparations are in full swing for the celebration. There would be several extra public holidays in June so that everyone could join in the festivities. And there would be grand parades and ceremonies throughout the month to commemorate this historical event. With garden parties also down the Mall and across towns and villages around the commonwealth.

Back in 1963, the Queen’s father (King George VI) died suddenly whilst Princess Elizabeth was away in Africa. She became the Queen immediately but didn’t know it at the time as she was away from any communications.

Here are some interesting facts about the 70 years of the Queen’s reign.

  1. The Queen is currently the 4th longest serving monarch in the world. In three months she will become the 3rd longest serving.
  2. There have been 14 Prime Ministers during The Queen’s reign so far.
  3. Approximately 293,000 telegrams have been sent to people in the United Kingdom celebrating their 100th birthday.
  4. Queen Elizabeth II is head of state in 15 countries in 2022.
  5. The Queen has two middle names, Alexandra and Mary
  6. The Queen has 12 great-grandchildren. They are Savannah Phillips, Isla Phillips, Prince George, Mia Tindall, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Lena Tindall, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, August Brooksbank, Lucas Tindall, Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor and Sienna Mapelli Mozzi.
  7. The Queen is the only person in the UK that doesn’t need a driving licence. She still drives as well.
  8. The Queen has plenty of hobbies which include horse riding, pigeon racing, and football – she’s an Arsenal supporter! Wonder if she thinks we need another striker…
